Restaurants??

My mom is coming into town this week, and I was hoping to get some restaurant recommendations. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  1. Fourth street filling station, sweet potatoes, and willows bistro are our favorites!

  2. I'm going to second Willows Bistro. We also like Firebirds and Old Salem Tavern is a fun an unique place to go.

  3. I have a few suggestions for restaurants, none that are fancy. East Coast Wings has our favorite wings, Elizabeth's Pizza has great pizza and stromboli, Las Estrellas has amazing fish tacos and Kimonos has my favorite chicken teriyaki in town.

  4. A 3rd for Willows, haha. And our go to is 6th and vine. Short but outstanding menu, great wine and beer.

Christopher's 1776 has great classic southern (fried chicken, Mac and cheese, etc). Both Christopher's and 6th and Vine have great patios and do live music once or twice a week.

Finnigan's Wake is casual, excellent burgers and pub food, beer, also have a patio.

The folks who own Willows also own a super casual (think rolls of paper towels on the table) but super delicious crab shack across the street from
    Downtown Thai.

Slightly fancier we like Milner's American Southern and 1703.

    1. Rereading this I'd say firebirds is too loud for good conversation.

And really, even if you don't take your mom this week you have to try 6th and vine. We almost never go anywhere else. Share the chocolate fondue (pound cake, fruit) for dessert. They also do half price bottles of wine on Wed and Sun? I think. You could check their website.

Re: kid friendly, we've had Ellie at all of the above; just make an earlier reservation--say 5:30/6 or shoot for a weeknight.

    2. Also excellent is Athena's Greek Taverna. Very casual, I like to go for lunch bc the menu is similar but cheaper than dinner.
